Why do some websites offer offer free screensavers?
When we download a screensaver it runs always in the background. Is it a Spy? They often eat your system resources. Has any one studied what exactly are the implications of these screensavers or smilies?

- You pretty much answered your own question. These things that you download for "free" infiltrate your system with spy-ware, ad-ware, mal-ware, etc. It is almost impossible to get rid of it once it is in your system. We learned the hard way, now our system is high-jacked and someone's search engine pops up, not any we've ever knowingly put into our system. Even those free smileys are bad news. I think it's okay to download things like Adobe Acrobat, or flashplayer, but anything else you have to be careful with.
- For some it is a marketing strategy but for others it is a way of spreading dangerous viruses so be careful when downloading these
