what is a 3D hardware accelerator?

just downloaded a christmas screensaver but i cant play it because i get a message saying i havent got a 3D hardware accelerator installed. how do i get one?

1. you need a better graphic card, as the one you have will not turn animations properly
2. A 3D Hardware Accelerator is a Graphics Card. This means you don't have a third party addon graphics card and only have the onboard graphics processing chip on the mobo & it doesn't have enough power to render the Christmas screensaver...
