something happened to my desktop and screensavers in macbook?

something happened to my desktop and screensavers in my macbook when i go to system preferneces they are gone and when i see desktop preferences the icon the words are misspell and wheni click it nothin is there just a blank what is happening what can i do or? instead of saying desktop and screensaver it says the icon looks like the one system and preferences and its not spell right. i found a document in my DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane that one it to open in system preferences but nothign happens?

1. First try a restart and see if that fixes the issue, if not, try a system restore - located in the Utilities folder>Disk Utilities.
