Can my tortoise and fish live together in an aquarium?

I want to place my tortoise into my fish aquarium that has a modified platform for it to have dry space. Will it start eating my fish? My fish are typical goldifsh, tetras.

  1. Wont it drown? Didnt know tortoises could swim.
  2. Please do not put tortoise and fish together it will not work
  3. The tortoise will drown, it's a land animal, and as it's a veggie, it wouldn't like your fish anyway.
  4. He may like Sushi?!
  5. do you mean a turtle or a terrapin cos tortoises can't swim
  6. Turtle will croak. They need land which in particular is missing in a fish aquarium. Better you should just shoot the turtle.
  7. IF YOU MEAN TERRAPIN NO IT WILL EAT YOUR FISH TRY DIVIDING THE TANK INTO TWO WITH CLEAR PERSPEX AND ONLY ALLOW HIM ACCESS TO HALF IT WILL STILL APPEAR TO BE THE ONE TANK TO THE EYE REMEMBER TO PUT SMALL HOLES IN IT TO ALLOW CIRCULATION
  8. NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Dont do it!!!
  9. No
  10. As mentioned, a tortoise will drown. If you're speaking of an aquatic turtle, they will eat your fish, and foul the water up beyond livable conditions........and Goldfish and tetras should not be together. The water will either be too cold for the tetras or too hot for the goldfish...and goldfish produce a lot of ammonia (waste and such too) and it will slowly poison the other fish (who have a lower tolerance for it). People do it, but it's not good for either fish.
  11. no man is an island..... and neither are tortoises....arnt you supposed to give them a big warm cosy cardboard box full of straw...at this time of year are they not supposed to hibernate? modified platform doesnt sound too inviting ....tell you what my mate lives in a high rise flat im sure he would let you kip on his veranda for a week so you can test what its like to live on a 'modified platform'....santa wont come if you are bad you know ...give it a box you know it makes sense
  12. You tortoise won't eat your fish; he wouldn't even be able to catch then if he wanted to. As long as the aquarium is set up so if the tortoise goes into the water he can easily get out it could work. A tortoise is tropical though and you will need to make sure the water isn't too cold for him. I had a Red-Foot Tortoise for 15 years and he went in the water all the time, they just have to have a ramp so they can get out. You'll have to make sure that you keep the water clean all the time. It sounds weird but they like to use the bathroom in water and if you don't change the water all the time that will kill your fish.
  13. ya it will probably eat them
  14. I doubt the tortoise would eat the fish, but to be honest I wouldn't put it in with them just in case it gets aggressive or territorial with them.
  15. The tortoise will eat the fish and the tortoise needs a tank of its own..
  16. dont put it in it will drown or it will eat your fish
  17. I think that it is a terrapin that you mean, probably a red-ear. I've tried to keep them with fish but it's very difficult. The terrapin will try to eat the fish and it will dirty your water no matter how good your filtration system is. From personal experience I would say no.
  18. dont do this, you're gonna kill your tortoise
