How important are screensavers ?
In the light of modern monitors are quite good. Will we need screensavers in the future or are they only for decoration purposes?

- VERY IMPORTANT.. You can still get a burn into your monitor... such as being able to see your desktop image burned into the background of your monitor if left on for to long.
- Screensavers are where you went to this screen and you go back there if you didn't shut it down and just closed it. You can download them and theres a screensaver to download at Famlyguy.com. So, they're not that important to get.
- Screensavers or the moving images when your computer isn't being used are there to prevent phosphur burn-in...which is when your computer is turned off you see a darkened shadow or ghost image. So, it's always best to have one, but, purely up to you.
- yeah unless you have a CRT screen, or your computer is connected to a plasma, you don't need a screensaver. just turn the monitor off for power saving and to increase LCD life because for an LCD screen a screensaver or a desktop is just the same
- Not needed for modern monitors. Correct. No risk of burning in an image onto the crt/ lcd monitor.
- Before screensavers were needed to stop a LCD/Plasma monitor from burning in the static image. But Burn in is obsolete, doesn't happen anymore, so the only need for a screensaver is to look cool.
- For TFT (flat panel) monitors, pointless - unless you are using a plasma screen! Turn off the screen saver and use the monitor shutdown feature instead. Saves power and bills.
