Why do opengl and linux screensavers lag terribly on my pc?

I got an xfx geforce fx 5500 and ubuntu screensavers and pclinuxos2007 screensavers lag horribly but windows screensavers play normally. Whats goin on? I have the driver, yes.

1. Have you installed the Nvidia drivers for your card. Without them, OpenGL has to be emulated in software instead of using the hardware acceleration.
2. I have a similar problem with my 7600GT and 6150le. Sometimes my entire system will lock up when looking at screensavers. My guess is a bug in the nvidia drivers.
