I know they need saltwater and all and they need a big fish tank aquarium which cost thosands, but can u still have a starfish as a pet and put them in like a 5 gallon or smaller fish aquarium like to put in ur room? And i mean like a baby starfish to put in not like a huge one. I need ur help!

  1. startfish require saltwater aquariums which are super expensive (in comparison to fresh water, u can get a tank and a betta for like twenty bucks and be happy) ANYWAY. so saltwater tanks are nooooot for beginners. it takes a pro with lots of background and hella time to spend on the hobby. i would not reccomend you get a starfish. as for how they live? i have no idea i dont have a starfish, but its hard enough to keep a REGULAR saltwater fish alive, let alone a starfish which feed by filtering or sucking or something abnormal.
  2. marine tank are very hard to keep up with and take lots of care and even a 5 gallon will cost you upwards of 300.....and starfish are very sensitive even exposing them to air while acclimating them can kill them..any little thing that goes wrong and that happens fast in a 5 gallon will kill it.... now for the biggest part...they GROW a baby will not stay a baby and need a lot of room don't even think about one unless you have a large tank......and get the money to house the invert properly.......its a big investment i would hate to see you lose it all
  3. But you need medium size of tank 55 gallons ..because the star will grow in big size ..you can have salt fishes in tank ..but you should care them well
  4. a starfish is not easy to keep i know you want a starfish really bad i am sure a lot of people want a saltwater aquarium really bad. but not everybody can afford one and not everybody is knowledgeable to have one. you need to know a lot about saltwater keeping. 1 gallon is way too small for a starfish anyways. even though they can be small when they are babies they do get bigger as they reach to adult and you need a bigger tank
  5. I applaud everyone for their wise 'DON'T DO IT' advice to Nichole. However, nobody here has to worry about the starfish getting too large. The chance of this starfish living will be zero. It absolutely will die before it has a chance to grow even a fraction of a millimeter. Nichole, please take the advice of people here and don't even consider a starfish until you've read a LOT about saltwater aquariums. You should get yourself an easy to keep freshwater fish. A betta comes to mind. Just be smart about it and get a nice 10 gallon tank for this beautiful fish. Don't even consider keeping the betta in a tiny bowl like the fish stores display them. That is inhumane. I'm sure with your enthusiasm you will be keeping a beautiful reef tank with starfish, shrimp, sea cucumbers, anemones and urchins before you know it. Stay enthusiastic and inquisitive but do your homework regarding saltwater critters first. swimmer
